Target Rationale
Safe, timely permanence for youth who cannot return home to their parents is critical to their well-being. We have set a target of reducing those youth who are currently in care 5 years or more to 5.5%, from 5.7%. Current strategies are focused on identifying permanent placement resources for those youth who are currently in care 5 years or more and future strategies will focus on finding permanent homes for youth in out of home care for shorter periods of time, so they do not remain in out of home care for 5 years. The Children’s Administration has met this target for the most recent reporting period, but because this is a percentage of total children in care, continued focus is necessary to sustain performance and improve outcomes for our youth.
